1/144 American Airlines Douglas DC-4
The Minicraft kit of the DC-4 wasn't too hard to find, so it was built quite early in my Douglas Commercial project. The American Airlines orange livery is cheerful and stylish, being also reasonably easy to replicate in a scale model.
The quality of the kit was slightly above the usual Minicraft standard considering this is one of the older designs. Some details are simplified and bit crude, but in this scale quite acceptable. The propellers are very toy-like and it would be better to use just the hubs representing spinning propellers like in taxiing instead.
The plastic was the usual hard white variety and the number of parts was kept in a minimum so this was like an average old Minicraft building experience again, i.e. some frustrating points but generally still fun.
I sprayed the overall Miranol silver decorating enamel with my airbrush, the stiff but otherwise nice "Flagship Monterey" kit decals were finished with an acrylic glosscoat. The de-icing rubber boots were a combination of kit decals and black paint-pen. Perhaps I'll try this nice 4-motor airliner from Douglas again in another livery some day.
