Emirates Boeing 777-200 "A6-EMJ" 1/144 Minicraft/F-DCAL

Although it feels sometimes I don't get anything ready, here's a scale airliner I managed to finish recently. This project took time but it wasn't particularily difficult, of course there were hitches here and there along the way and decals were a bit tricky to use.

I've always wanted an Emirates scale model and luckily there was this combination Minicraft 777 and F-DCAL decals available. This livery is one of the most stylish modern designs in my opinion, if the plane has to be a white giant tube then this is the way to go. Golden logos, flashy but simple tail flag motif and Arabic text is a classy combination. The Boeing 777 itself is somewhat nondescript and generic modern airliner from the outside if you ask me, I prefer the classic 20th century airliner models in general but every now and then a modern plane is refreshing variety.

Alitalia DC-9-Super 80 (MD-82) I-DACN 1/144 Minicraft/Two Six Decals

This airliner model is a testbed for re-decaling and restoring a project which didn't go too well in the first round. The original Minicraft kit had Scandinavian Airlines System decals, which were unfortunately aged and fractured beyond my capabilities. Plan B was a fictional USAF cargo plane with various leftover decals, but that didn't turn out too satisfying either. In the end I removed the decals altogether and put the painted but otherwise blank model aside for a while.

By chance I found this nice looking Two Six Alitalia "new livery" sheet and decided to try it, being a laser print it was a good subject for testing a recently acquired Micro Liquid Decal Film bottle as well.

I think the decals were a bit easier to handle with the Liquid Decal Film, Two Six lasers tend to be almost robust enough as is but it's nice to know that I've got something to help with F-DCAL lasers sheets in the future. This re-decaling was at least modestly succesful, I like the Alitalia livery and if not a perfect model from a clean build I'm still quite happy with this result. Well, actually I don't like the way Two Six does the cabin windows with "painted-in" reflections but nevermind...
